Matildas semi-final: Where to watch, how to get there and what time it starts

The Matildas’ win against France on Saturday captivated the country, making Wednesday’s semi-final against England one of the most highly anticipated sporting events in recent memory.

Where can you watch the game? What time is it broadcast? And how can you get to the match if you’re lucky enough to have tickets?

When and where is the match?

The game will kick off at Stadium Australia in Sydney at 8pm. If you are going to the match, the closest train station to the stadium is Olympic Park – about a five-minute walk to the game.

Extra trains will be running and the Sydney Olympic Park major event bus routes will be in operation. You can take a look at those routes here.

Regular buses will also be available, including route 525 running between Parramatta and Burwood via Sydney Olympic Park, route 526 from Rhodes to Burwood via Sydney Olympic Park Ferry Wharf, and route 533 from Chatswood to Sydney Olympic Park via North Ryde and Rhodes.

Transport for NSW is urging ticket holders to catch public transport and leave their cars at home.

Where can you watch the game?

If you haven’t got tickets to see the Matildas at Stadium Australia, there are a number of live sites across Sydney.

There will be a fan festival at Tumbalong Park at 11 Harbour Street, Darling Harbour, while Sydney Football Stadium in Moore Park and Western Sydney Stadium at Parramatta will throw open their gates to supporters.

There will also be big screens at North Sydney Oval and Chatswood Concourse, while viewing parties will take place at Bondi Pavilion in the Garu Courtyard.

For the inner west there will be live sites at Mackey Park in Marrickville and at Strathfield Square.

Sydney’s west will host viewing parties at Parramatta Square, The Mondo in Penrith, Merrylands Civic Square and Warrick Lane in Blacktown.

How else to watch the game?

For homebodies or those hosting their own parties, the match will be broadcast live and free on Channel Seven and 7 Plus, or on streaming service Optus Sport.
