Queen Of The Mile headlines a list of handy runners at Goulburn meeting

By Neil Evans

It might only be a country Class 1 Handicap, but Monday’s Goulburn meeting threatens to be a launching pad for several new season three-year-olds who will be aimed at bigger metropolitan targets in the early spring.

Heading the city arrivals for the 900m dash is Written Tycoon filly Queen Of The Mile resuming for only her third start.

From the Michael Freedman stable at Randwick, Queen Of The Mile gave an early indication she’s ready to scale much bigger heights after showing promise as a two-year-old in her first prep.

Back in early April after being transferred from the Gary Portelli yard, Queen Of The Mile made an inauspicious debut at Warwick Farm, but a fortnight later she headed west and duly thrashed her rivals in the Golden Nugget at Bathurst.

Immediately spelled, she tuned up for a return with a smart trial win 17 days ago and looks primed to hit the ground running.

Punters, though, will be casting a close eye over two light-raced rivals, both trained on the track.

Progressive Rich Enuff filly Super Norwest can peak third-up in her first proper prep for the Matt Dale stable; while talented four-year-old mare Deep Shimmer resumes for the Scott Collings yard.

That race is part of a two-prong assault on the meeting from the Michael Freedman camp who saddles up improving three-year-old Sense Of Humour in a Maiden Plate over 1400m immediately after.

Just 11 days after the son of Pariah was run down late at Wyong by the smart Zarrose, hard-fit Sense Of Humour drops back to a very winnable country race fourth-up.

But he’ll have to overcome a wide barrier against a swarm of fellow metro visitors, including debutant filly Harlow Mist and tough mare River Tamar second-up from the John Sargent yard; as well as improving colt Das Kapital from the Maher-Eustace stable.
